Moog suction barrel cleaners are made in Switzerland by MOOG Cleaning Systems AG, a family business founded in 1968, and supplied and serviced direct to Western Cape cellars by Kränzle South Africa.
The Moog BRA Reference is a hand-held cleaner that cleans a barrel where it stands. It cleans the whole interior from the top while a built-in injector siphons the dirty water out, so the barrel never has to be turned or drained.
The BRA Reference Standard suits 225 to 300 L barrels, with extensions for 400 and 600 L, and the BRA Reference Flex is made for stacked barrels. Both run off a Kränzle high pressure cleaner delivering 13 to 20 L/min. For a frame-mounted cleaner built locally, see the Kränzle barrel cleaners.

How does a Moog suction barrel cleaner work?
The Moog BRA Reference is a hand-held cleaner that fits into the bung hole and cleans the barrel where it stands, with its suction cup resting on the bottom of the barrel. Two 5° flat-spray nozzles clean the whole interior, 360° from the top, while a built-in injector creates a strong vacuum that siphons the dirty water out during and after cleaning, so the barrel never has to be turned or drained.
Should a cellar choose the Moog BRA Reference Standard or Flex?
The Standard suits barrels from 225 to 300 L that are not stacked, and takes extension tubes for 400 and 600 L barrels. The Flex has a flexible suction tube for stacked barrels that cannot be moved or tilted, and suits 225 to 228 L barrels.
What high pressure cleaner does a Moog barrel cleaner need?
A separate high pressure cleaner delivering 13 to 20 L/min at 80 to 120 bar. Kränzle machines have adjustable pressure, so the flow is what decides: the Kränzle Quadro 799 TST, Quadro 1000 TST and 48 kW Electra all qualify, while machines delivering 10 L/min fall short. The Moog works with water up to 90 °C.
Can the Moog clean 400 and 600 litre barrels?

How long does a Moog barrel cleaner take to arrive?
Moog barrel cleaners are made to order in Switzerland, which takes roughly two to four weeks, followed by five to seven working days of air freight. The European summer holiday in August can extend this.
What maintenance does a Moog barrel cleaner need?
MOOG specifies maintenance about every 300 operating hours, when all the seals are replaced, and the ball bearings are replaced with original bearings after 2,000 operating hours at the latest. It is built in modules, so individual parts can be exchanged and the cleaner put back into operation quickly, and it is designed for use with fresh water only. Servicing and repairs are carried out by Kränzle South Africa, on site at the cellar or in the Cape Town workshop.
